10th Anniversary Concert - Sit Down

We celebrated ten years of the choir with a concert at the OSO Arts Centre in Barnes, with a live band and some of the brilliant singers we’ve collaborated with over the past decade.

The James song ‘Sit Down’ has become a choir favourite. It is full of raucous energy and its lyric celebrates something the choir stands for: the value of sharing space and providing companionship to our neighbours, through good times and bad.

Welcome to Barnes Community Choir

This video offers an introduction to what it is like singing with Barnes Community Choir.

Hear from Joe, our Musical Director; Pauline, our Chairperson, and various members of the group, about what it is like to sing and socialise with the group!

I Know You Different

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Barnes Community Choir in 2021, we have commissioned our very own song, with words by Adey Grummet, music by Chris Ash, musical direction by Joe Bunker and audio/ video editing by Mark Newnham and Tom Connor for Singing Cactus.

Inspired by the words of choir members, who continued to meet virtually during the pandemic, it reflects how being part of the choir has helped keep us connected - even though we couldn’t meet in person.

Strong (London Grammar)

While we’ve not been able to gather together in person, we’ve been running regular singing sessions on Zoom and working towards this Virtual Choir project.

Here, you can hear us singing a choir favourite, ‘Strong’ by London Grammar, arranged by Sarah Latto.

This video was recorded remotely by members of the choir, features Joe Bunker on piano, Mark Newnham on guitars, and edited together by Digital Cactus.

BCC’S DESERT ISLAND DISCS

Another lockdown project was the creation of BCC’s very own Desert Island Discs! Each week, during our virtual choir sessions, the choir were encouraged to submit their favourite tracks and explain their connection to the song. What emerged was an eclectic mix of tunes - as individual as our members! You can listen to the playlist on Spotify.
